Location

The undisputed wine capital of the world, Bordeaux is a mecca for wine lovers everywhere. Vines were introduced to the area by the Romans and wine production there has continued ever since, from everyday vin de table to expensive premier cru. The city is home to the striking Cité du Vin, a highly rated wine museum shaped like a decanter that opened its doors in 2016 and is well worth a visit during your stay. The city itself (the sixth largest in France), home to the largest urban World Heritage Site in the world, has undergone extensive renovations in recent years; with a state of the art tram system, restored facades and revamped riverside it is a pleasure to wander around. It offers superb restaurants (as you would expect), great shopping and a lively nightlife. This really is a superb destination for a wine tasting holiday, and is well worth the high price tag. Mouton...). During this day you could experience wine tastings and guided tours to some of them in different appellation such as Margaux & Pauillac. The Medoc wines are mostly blended with Cabernet Sauvignon & Merlot.

Nearest Airport: Bordeaux (30 mins) Other airports: Bergerac (1 hr 30 mins) By Car Hiring a car not necessary for this break unless you are planning to extend your stay and visit other locations. By Public Transport There is a regular shuttle bus between Bordeaux airport and the city train station. From there you can walk or take a taxi to your accommodation. London – Bordeaux with Eurostar down to just 6 hours journey time. By Private Transfer Taxi available outside airport. Private transfer available on request after main booking.

Are the tastings led by a sommelier or the winemakers themselves?

Many of our wine experiences are hosted directly by the winemakers or estate staff, giving you a genuinely personal insight into their vineyards and process, while others are guided by a knowledgeable local sommelier. Either way, you're in expert hands and free to ask as many questions as you like.

What if I don't drink alcohol, is this still a good trip for me?

Yes, plenty of guests join our wine holidays without drinking, and there's always more to enjoy, from stunning vineyard scenery and local food to cellar tours and the culture behind the wine itself. Just let us know in advance and we'll make sure the itinerary works well for you too.

Can I buy wine to take home or have it shipped?

Many wineries offer the option to purchase bottles directly, and some can arrange shipping to the UK or Ireland, though this varies by estate and country. We're happy to flag which stops on your itinerary offer this, just ask our team once you've chosen your destination.
